Groeten uit Segbroek
Suite uit Segbroek series
Intro
Segbroek could use a little more connection. With ourselves, with our neighbours, and with the world around us. In Groeten uit Segbroek, we map out real connections between real people. This performance full of true stories and unexpected encounters is an ode to the neighbourhood and its residents.
“Sometimes people just need a chat, I think.”
“I don’t usually venture outside my neighbourhood. Well, except to get Chinese takeaway from Ruby’s, or to take out the rubbish. Then I do.”
“I would just like to say: ‘I’ve made too much soup: is anyone interested?’“
Segbroek is a lively neighbourhood in The Hague, home to most of Kluster5’s members. With the project Groeten uit Segbroek, Kluster5 continues its Suite uit Segbroek series in collaboration with Theater de Regentes. Participants — people from the neighborhood — were asked when they experience connection or, conversely, when they feel disconnected. What are their favorite sounds from the neighborhood? Where do they feel welcome, and which people from the neighborhood do they avoid? Stories collected through 10 workshops were translated into music, sounds, text and movement, and together form a unique performance by, about and for the neighbourhood.
